bullet Reserve your space to attend a Prospective Parent Open House in the fall. This event helps interested families learn about the school’s mission, philosophy, values and academic program. Guests will tour our campus and speak with members of the St. James’ community. Space is limited.

bullet Submit your application to the Admissions Office with the $100 non-refundable application fee as soon as possible, but no later than January 12, 2009. Late applications received will be considered after April if space is available.
Note: In order to apply for Kindergarten for the 2009-10 academic school year, your child’s birth date must be before September 1, 2004. Please inquire about the birthday cut-off for applicants in Grades 1-6.

bullet Please submit the Request For Transcript form and the proper Teacher Evaluation form to your child’s current school.  All information furnished on these forms is confidential and will not be disclosed to anyone, including the applicant and his or her family. All forms must be received by the Admissions Office by February 16, 2009.

bullet Prospective students and their families will be invited to St. James’ for a grade-level screening which provides an opportunity for us to get to know your child better. The Kindergarten screening is a group assessment designed to evaluate a child’s school readiness. Applicants for Grades 1-6 take a written exam and spend time in the classroom. During this assessment process, parents have an opportunity to ask questions about the school program and philosophy. These assessments will be held in January and February.

bullet Once you have submitted an application for admission, you will be invited to St. James' for a conversation with a member of the Admissions Committee. You will learn more about St. James’ and discuss your family’s needs and expectations as you search for the right school for your child. These 30-minute meetings will take place from January - March 2009.

bullet The Admissions Committee will review all applications and decisions on acceptance will be made in March. Decision letters will be mailed March 20, 2009. After this date, decisions are made on a rolling basis; an invitation to enroll depends upon available space.

bullet St. James' Episcopal Preschool enrolls children ages two-and-a-half through five. Applications for the 2009-2010 school year are being accepted through December 15, 2008. Before submitting an application to the Preschool, we request that you attend a parent tour. Parent tours are held once a month at 3:00 p.m. To reserve space on the next available tour, please call the Preschool office at 213-738-7871.

Thank you for your interest in St. James’ Episcopal School. We look forward to meeting you and your family!

Financing a St. James' Episcopal School Education

As part of our mission as an Episcopal school, we have a long-standing commitment to make a St. James' education accessible to students from a range of economic backgrounds.   St. James' offers a Tuition Assistance program, a payment plan, and loan information from various financial institutions.

We set funds aside each year to help "bridge the gap" for families who may not be able to cover the full cost of tuition.  These funds are provided when financial need is established.  Priority goes first to students currently receiving Tuition Assistance, then to returning students, and finally to newly admitted students.

Tuition at St. James' for the 2008-2009 academic year is $14,800.  Tuition includes textbooks, field trips, testing fees, and before-school and after-school care. Additional fees such as the New Student Fee, Tuition Guarantee Plan, Bookkeeping Fee, and optional expenses such as uniforms and hot lunch may range from $1,550 to $2,700 annually.

St. James' Episcopal School provided Tuition Assistance to 15% of its students during the 2008-2009 academic year.  Below is the distribution of our recipient families.

            Total Family Income                             Percentage
            Below $70,000                                            58%
            $70,000 - $150,000                                    31%
            Above $150,000                                         11%

Awards for the 2008-2009 academic year ranged from 5% to 90% of total cost of attendance (tuition plus fees).
