Parent Association

Dear Fellow St. James’ Parents:

 Congratulations on successfully getting through another year! The goal of this letter is to prepare parents for the 2018-2019 school year ahead. Although it seems early, some sign-ups and events are just around the corner this summer. First, we’d like to connect parents with volunteer opportunities and collect Parent Association dues.

As you know, strong parent participation is an important part of what makes St. James’ extraordinary. Our parent body regularly comes together with faculty, staff and students to enhance the school community through engaging events.

The St. James’ Parent Association helps coordinate parent involvement at school. Parent Association supports the mission of the school through volunteer opportunities.

There are opportunities to volunteer that fit every schedule. The following activities happen thanks to parent volunteers and the annual collection of Parent Association dues (*K-6):

 

  • African-American Heritage Month

  • Art Committee*

  • Dads’ Night Out

  • Faculty Appreciation Meals*

  • Family Weekend Camping Trip* (sign-up started in May)

  • Grandparents and Special Friends Day

  • Hispanic Heritage events

  • Healthy Hot Lunch

  • The Herald Magazine

  • In-N-Out Burger Lunch (sign up will be available in August)

  • Larchmont Fair

  • Library and Media Center Committee*

  • Lost and Found*

  • Lunar New Year

  • Mitzvah Committee

  • Moms’ Night Out

  • Photography Committee

  • The Shop@SJS

  • St. James’ Cares

  • STEAM Fair*

  • Theatre Program

  • Used Uniform Closet*

  • Year End and Holiday Staff Collection Drive*

 

Your family’s Parent Association dues of $80 will allow us to carry out the above activities in the 2018-2019 school year. Surplus funds earned from events are donated back to the school. In the year that just ended, the Parent Association gifted $7500 to the Believe Campaign for campus renovation, $7500 to the annual Spring Event, and $3500 to teachers as part of a “Wish List”.
