Advancement Year-in-Review 2018-19

We could not have enjoyed such a successful year in friend- and fund-raising without the support of our dedicated and generous community! Thank you to all our volunteers, donors, event hosts, and supporters who made our dreams possible!

Advancement Committee

The Advancement Committee is comprised of SJS community members, including current parents and alumni, who support the Advancement Office with fundraising, events and other initiatives. These volunteers participate in monthly meetings, provide vital assistance to the programs mentioned on this page, and share valuable feedback and ideas to keep our wheels turning!

Thank you for your leadership and support to the school!

Spring Event

What embodies St. James' fun side better than the Spring Event?

Our special 50th Anniversary edition of the event was held on Friday, March 8th, at the Petersen Automotive Museum and gave our school community a fabulous opportunity to celebrate our school in style and raise funding for the school's upcoming Beyond School! after school enrichment program. Big thank you to our fearless event chairs, Caroline Chiles, Lenore Douglas, Elisha Hall, Teresa Keith, Jules Leyser, Jina Park, and Ariana Smeraldo, for helping us plan and execute another memorable Spring Event!

Every Child Fund

The Every Child Fund is the most essential fundraising program for the school as it supports our general operating budget to allow the school to remain socioeconomically diverse with one of the lowest tuitions in the city. We are so grateful for the support of the St. James' parent community, Board of Trustees and Staffulty for once again helping us achieve 100% participation (for 6th straight year), this time in a mere 50 days in honor of the school's 50th Anniversary! We also thank our alumni families, grandparents and special friends, and foundations and corporations for their generosity.

We are fortunate to have the help of our Class Ambassadors who made another year of 100% parent participation possible. Thank you for your hard work on behalf of the school!

Husky Cup Golf Classic

Our 4th annual Husky Cup Golf Classic was great fun from the start to finish with beautiful weather, enthusiastic players, both little and big, and good old-fashioned spirit of competition! Our two wonderful event co-chairs, Amy Joung and Peter Yu, worked hard all year to spread the word to our community and plan a day of fun for everyone. We also would like to give a special shout-out to our junior players who came out to show off their awesome golfing skills.

We thank our sponsors for their support and hope to see even more SJS families and friends participate next year!

Alumni Programs

To mark this year's 50th Anniversary for the school, the Alumni Council has been working on putting together a special Alumni Reunion for the past two years. All of the hard work paid off on Saturday, October 20th, when we saw 350 alumni and current families, current and past staffulty, and friends of the school gather together to celebrate Rev. Chuck Rowins, a beloved former Head of School. It was a celebration to remember and a testament to the lasting impact of our school.

As we close out our 50th Anniversary year, we wanted to make sure that we share our gratitude with our guests and the SJS Alumni Council members who poured their heart into this event. Thank you!
