St. James'–Colburn Band Tunes Up for 2015–2016

Dear parents and 4th–6th grade students,

We are excited to announce that plans are in place for band at St. James’ Episcopal School for the 2015–2016 academic year, and we would like to invite all interested 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students to join us this year as new members!

Choosing from trumpet, euphonium, clarinet, and flute, band members gather for practice (usually in Parish Hall) on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:00–8:15 a.m., beginning Thursday, September 24. Under the guidance of the Colburn School's Mr. Huei-Yuan Pan, our talented and beloved band director, students learn the skills needed to play their instruments and work together as an ensemble. Additionally, the Colburn School offers students the opportunity to attend its Saturdays @ Colburn rehearsals most Saturday afternoons, from 1:30–6:30 p.m. All band students will perform together at our Night of the Arts Concert, and those who participate in the Saturdays @ Colburn program will also have the opportunity to perform at the Colburn School's spring concert.

We are very pleased to announce that, once again, the cost of this amazing opportunity has been covered by St. James’. Students will only have to pay for the rental or purchase cost of their instruments.

On Saturday, September 12, Colburn will hold its Student & Parent Orientation and Instrument Fitting in Olive Rehearsal Hall at Colburn, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. (The ORH is located on P2 of Colburn's Olive building, 200 S. Grand Ave.) Interested students and their parents are strongly encouraged to attend this informative gathering. They will receive information about the program, and under the guidance of the Colburn staff, students will have the opportunity to discover which instrument best suits them.

Colburn is also offering band members the opportunity to visit its Jumpstart intensive program for new members on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday afternoons between September 14 and October 2 from 4:00–5:30 p.m. Interested families will be responsible for providing transportation to rehearsal after dismissal at St. James’. Please know that for this reason – and because students are involved in so many after-school activities – participation in the Jumpstart program is not a requirement for joining the band.

Please let us know if your child is interested in joining band this year by sending an email to fourth grade teacher Brian Duggan. You may include in your message which of the four instruments you think your child might be interested in playing and any questions you may have.

We look forward to many new students joining us for another wonderful year of the St. James' – Colburn Band!

Sincerely,

Mr. Brian Duggan
St. James' Band Coordinator
