Announcements

- Partybook - Paint and Sip

Ready to unleash your inner Van Gogh?  Please come join us for a fun-filled evening of eating, sipping (wine, of course), socializing and painting!  Paint, canvas and brushes are provided as an experienced local artist leads you step-by-step through the process of recreating a classic.  Come hungry and empty handed, and leave with your very own masterpiece! This is an adults only party. Sign up here.

- Around the World Fair

We are pleased to announce that our annual, three-day Around the World festival will take place this year on March 8, 9, and 10. This is our opportunity to share and celebrate the cultural diversity of the St. James' community, and we're very exited to be able to bring it to you again. We will celebrate the Americas and Asia on Wednesday, and on Thursday, we will celebrate Africa, Australia, Europe, the Middle East, and the Pacific. On Friday, the three-day celebration will culminate in an All-School Assembly with performances by all K–6 classes, representing a wide variety of regions. In addition to the work that the students are doing, we will celebrate on Wednesday and Thursday (not Friday) with our traditional Food Fair, which will feed students an international "tasting" lunch. Sign up to bring a dish!

- Student Leadership Carnival

The Student Leadership Program will be hosting a carnival in April! We will have lots of games, prizes and fun activities. Some games will have a small cost but others will be free! We will have food, arts and crafts, prizes and games to play!

We want to host this carnival because the proceeds will support our St. James’ Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry. This will help them buy more food to give to the homeless and people in need.

If any families own carnival games or concession stands, please contact Natalie (nyu@sjsla.org) or Reese (rduff@sjsla.org). Some of the main things we are looking for are:

  • cotton candy machine

  • popcorn machine

  • ring toss

  • bean bag toss

  • prize wheel

  • or any other carnival game!

We are looking forward to the carnival and hope to see you there! Please contact us if you have any of the things we need or any questions about the event.

- Parent Portal

We are proud to announce a new one stop shop for St. James' parents! If you are wondering what events may be upcoming that you need to sign up/buy a ticket for www.sjsla.org/parentportal is the place to go!

- Pajama Day and Read Across America

March 2nd is Dr. Seuss’s birthday and the 20th anniversary of Read Across America! Read Across America is a nationwide reading celebration in honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Next Thursday the whole school will celebrate by wearing our pajamas! We will also have D.E.A.R (Drop Everything And Read) from 8:30-9:00. Parents are welcome to bring a book and come read with us! Lastly, the Kindergarteners-second graders will participate in 6 educational Dr. Seuss centers from 12:45-2:45 in the afternoon. If you would like to help read or run the Green Eggs and Ham Center, please email your classroom teacher. See you on March 2nd , PJs, books and all!

- Homework Hiatus

Monday, February 27 - Friday, March 3 there will be no assigned homework. As a result, there will be no scheduled tests, quizzes or projects to prepare for during this time. While classroom instruction will continue to offer opportunities for students to demonstrate their understanding, all assessments will occur within the regular school day and will not require any additional preparation at home. We wanted to take this opportunity to take a break from nightly routines and rituals to allow you time to spend together as a family. We hope you will enjoy this gift of time.
