100 YEARS OF MUSIC

  • SPOKEN WORD – Poetry is an art form that focuses on the aesthetics of wordplay, intonation and voice inflection. The HAMI LIT poetry club will grace the St. James’ community with this dynamic form of expression that is full of high - energy and power which connects with audiences of all ages and socio-cultural backgrounds.

Thank you to the African-American Heritage Month Committee, and the Parent Association for putting together these wonderful events!

A message from Peter Reinke: As much as I enjoy my read-aloud sessions with the students, I am equally delighted to see you all at our first Book Club Meeting on Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at 8:15 a.m. in Hampton Hall. We moved the date up a little bit because I’m so excited to get underway! Our first book, Mindset: The New Psychology of Success by Carol Dweck is the perfect companion to recharge your New Year’s resolutions.

As part of St. James' Church's ongoing mission to respond to human need by loving service we are supporting the wonderful work of Stories From the Frontline. Stories From the Frontline is working to support affordable and supportive housing in Los Angeles as a solution to homelessness. We hope you can join Rector Kate Cress for the event below next week.

Our Next Storytelling Event

Feb 20, 2019 @ 6:30 - 8 PM

FIRST CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH

Come hear a first-person story of recovery from homelessness, and get the most up to date report on our city’s fight of the ongoing crisis. Most importantly learn how to speak like an expert to convince your friends, family and community members to support the Bridge Home and Supportive Housing coming to our neighborhood. Light snacks will be served. This is an Interfaith & Community Collaborative brought to you by Stories From The Frontline, First Congregational Church, Blessed Sacrament, St James' Church, Immanuel Presbyterian, Ktown for All, ImagineLA, Everyone In and the John and Marilyn Wells Family Foundation.

For the third year St. James' will celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday with a special pajama day and Read Across America. Our festivities will kick off first thing in the morning with Community Gathering and D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read). Parents are welcome to join us. The day continues in the afternoon with activities for all grade levels with fun and games for all. We're looking for volunteers. We need help from 12:30 - 3:15 pm. If you want to help, please contact Mei-Ling Leonard (MLeonard@SJSLA.org)

As the school year goes on we wanted to remind everyone of the ins and outs of pickup procedures. When you see the staff on the curb call in your student's name that message is relayed over a loudspeaker to students on the yard immediately. Often times the delay in students coming out is not because of the rapidity of the message - but can be due to any number of factors, late dismissal, students getting sidetracked between the yard and the curb, searching for missing items, etc. We hope you can remind your students to come to the curb the first time their name is called.

Together, we can efficiently improve the Pickup line and get children safely into your cars every day!
