Please enjoy your personal copy of St. James' 50th Anniversary Commemorative Book that went home in Backpack Express on Tuesday.
A very special thank you to David Blankenship, Michelle McCormick and Brad Listi for their creative vision, design, and production of this wonderful publication.
“Success as you will find is worth very little without a bit of struggle thrown in. Just imagine the bobbling of a creek or a small river, those sounds are made because enormous rocks are obstructing the water, and it is that relationship, that tension between rock and water that produces those beautiful sounds, we couldn’t have diamonds without the enormous pressure put onto the carbon that produces them.”Click here to listen to Head of School Peter Reinke’s full sermon.
“Again, our servant-leaders, I am so proud of all that you have done and proud for all that I know that you will do over the next many years as you grow to adulthood and beyond and as I mentioned to you the other week, Mark Twain suggests that the two most important days of your life are when you are born and when you find out why. The next many years will give you the tools to address that question in enormously gratifying and fulfilling ways. My blessings and congratulations to you all.”Click here to read Head of School Peter Reinke’s full remarks.
Enjoy a weekend with St. James’ families in a luxury cabin or tent among the oak and sycamore trees by El Capitan Creek just north of Santa Barbara! The weekend includes swimming, hiking, games, arts and crafts, beach time, campfires, and an evening activity to be announced. Attending the weekend is an ideal way to meet new families (K-6) and build strong friendships at the start of a new school year. Organized activities begin on Saturday at 4 pm and end Monday morning. For further information about the location, please visit the El Capitan website at www.elcapitancanyon.com

This is my 109th and final Husky Hits. It has been such an honor to get to be a part of this community and I have loved watching your students grow up. At graduation on Wednesday evening I thought about how one of my favorite photos I have taken at St. James’ is of two members of the class of 2019 on their first day of 4th grade and marveled at how far they’ve come. These three years have been formative for me as well, and I want to thank Debbi David and Chris Cook for hiring me and for their patience as I grew into this role. Their guidance was essential in helping me rise to the occasion of this position at St. James’, I never could have done the depth and breadth of work I have accomplished here without the support of Christina Campbell, Clara Martin, Sarah Lougheed-Gill, Jim Casey and so many other members of this community who extended grace to me when I erred, and appreciated my efforts.
I will miss this school dearly but wish all St. James’ students past, present and future all the best in their journeys!
