Husky Hits - Oct 16 2016

There is a Japanese word - Boketto - which means to vacantly gaze off into the distance without any thoughts at all. We hope you get to savor some boketto amid the hustle and bustle of another week. For now though, please gaze upon this week's Husky Hits.

You can also gaze on the week that was in our galleries:

- St. James Family Camp Weekend

What a wonderful way to spend the weekend with our children and families in the St. James community!  The freedom the kids experienced away from the hustle and bustle of the city is priceless and the new friendships made over the weekend will last a lifetime.  There were so many special moments...biking, the beach, field games, the dance party, the hikes, the church service, the campfires and just those moments when we had a chance to get to know someone new.

If you lost any items you can find them at the lost and found on campus.

A big thank you to all who contributed to the weekend, whether you donated food or drink for our cocktail hours or volunteered your time for field games or the dance party.  A special thank you also goes to those of you who donated funds so that all families within the St. James community have the opportunity to attend.  A few key contributors cannot go without specific mention:
Susan Kneafsey – for her dedication to the school and oversight of this particular event for 13 years.  It is hard to believe it is her last!
David Park and Eric Green – for their energy and enthusiasm in organizing fun filled field games and an amazing dance party
Olivia Kazanjian – for designing and handling sales of the t-shirts and hats that help to make the weekend possible
Lisa Morrison – for organizing the cocktail hour filled with unique drinks and appetizers providing a casual but important gathering where we connect
Dorothy Kim  - for organizing the arts and crafts for the kids
Kirsten Beffa – for organizing volunteers and assisting with the hikes
Rob Kim – for putting together a scavenger hunt for the kids
Father Koh – for leading us in prayer at the church service on Sunday

We would also like to thank Vicki Carrington, whose incredible commitment made it possible for us to celebrate our wonderful school community together at the Family Camp Weekend!

- St. James' Bake Sale

Calling all Bakers!  It is time for the annual St. James' Bake Sale.  Please save the date of November 18 to contribute your homemade bake goods, while purchasing delicious treats from your fellow SJS families. If we have leftover baked goods, we know the St. James' Church Soup Kitchen would love to receive them for their families in need.

- Larchmont Fair

In the past, the bake sale has continued into the weekend with St. James' School having a few booths at the Larchmont Fair.  This year we have decided to take a year off from participating with the Larchmont Fair.  Given everyone's busy schedules and the volunteer and staff hours it takes to produce our St. James' booths at the fair, we wanted to catch our breath this year.

- Student Leadership Program

These students will develop their leadership skills, explore entrepreneurship by creating their own healthy bake sale, and make a difference in their community by proposing and implementing their own service projects!  To learn more about what our Student Leaders will be doing throughout the year, please visit our Student Leadership page.

Once students choose an instrument, they can join the brand new Beginner Band which will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:15am in Parish Hall starting on October 18th. No prior knowledge of music or instrumental skills required!

Rest in Peace Joe Herman (1942-2016)

We are deeply saddened to announce that 6th grader Simone Herman lost her dad, Joe Herman, this week. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and especially to Vanessa Herman. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Joe’s name to Joe's alma mater, Evanston Township High School. Donations will help support the school's Chemistry and Physics programs. Joe was an avid science student in his youth, and he continued to support the public high school throughout his life. His full obituary can be found here.
