- Work-Study

The schedule of a St. James' student is packed full of extracurriculars and events every day of the week. We know that when your student gets home they want to be able to transition into family mode after a long day. The best way to do that is to take advantage of Work-Study offered Monday-Thursday 3:30-5:30 in the library with Ms. Urrea! Whether your student is struggling with an assignment or simply trying to manage workflow, Work-Study is an invaluable asset for many students and parents at St. James' - "We’ve really enjoyed how Tijaan has learned and been excited by little math equations from 3rd and 4th graders working on their homework, as he is allowed to hang with the older kids once he’s done his own work" says Talita Choudhury (parent of Tijaan & Jinaan).

If you think your student could benefit from Work-Study reserve your space for them here or reach out to Yesi Urrea (YUrrea@SJSLA.org) with any questions.

- Handwashing

'Tis the season for colds and flu!  At Saint James' we are taking steps to keep our children healthy and we need your support.  To start with, please do not send your sick child to school.  Students should always remain home when they have a fever of 100 F(38 C) or above. They should remain home until they are fever free for 24 hours, WITHOUT the aid of fever reducers.  If a student develops a temperature of 100 F or higher here at school or if your child is too sick to benefit from school and unable to participate in class comfortably, you will be called to take your child home from school.  Children with diarrhea, vomiting, significant cold symptoms, rashes or other illnesses, even if they do not have a fever, should also remain at home.  When your child comes to school sick (and possibly contagious), not only does it expose other children to the illness, it also increases your own child’s healing time.  So let's remind our kids to wash their hands with soap and water often, use hand sanitizer when it's available, eat their leafy greens, and get plenty of rest!  And thank you for helping to keep all of our children healthy.

Warmly,
Nurse Kelly

- The Every Child Campaign

Dear Parents,

With 40 days remaining in our 100% in 100 Days goal, we wanted to take a moment to thank our donors and remind everyone to participate in the Every Child Campaign. At 35% family participation and over $350,000 raised, we feel so blessed to have this meaningful support from our incredible community, but we still have a ways to go.

If you have already given, thank you! If you have yet to participate, we look forward to thanking you. We are gearing up for the annual Every Child Campaign Phonathon next Wednesday, November 1 during which time our class ambassadors will have the opportunity to check in with our families. We hope you will take advantage of this chance to ask whatever questions you may have and to book your pledge or gift.

We want to remind you that this year, the first grade level to cross the 100% threshold will enjoy a Yogurtland Party to celebrate in style! Right now, Kindergarten is leading the pack with 60% participation, with 2nd grade right behind with 50%.

Please take a minute to check out the full Donor Roll (currently as of October 24, and updated weekly in Husky Hits) to see how your gift will be recognized in our publications. If you prefer a different listing, let us know at ao@sjsla.org.

Every gift is a testament to our commitment to St. James’ and we truly appreciate your help in making our school the most nurturing, happy, and transformative place for our children. Please help us get to 100% by December 8th!

With sincere gratitude,

Chris Cook, Director of Advancement

Jina Park, Every Child Campaign Chair
